I have had a week off work

Finally I have had some time to get into my craft room and spend some serious time on a few projects I have been wanting to make for some time.  I haven't even blogged since November, although I have put a few odds and ends on my facebook page, so if you feel inclined , do pop over there for a look too.

Here's what I have been up to this week though, most of which as usual courtesy of SVG Cuts.

Cupcake Carousel

 The wee started with me finishing (Blinging up) a Cupcake Carousel I had made in basic form two weeks ago.  The more I thought about it though, the more I wanted to add to it.  This is it now in final form.  This one is going on sale for £20.    The 'tent' style lid comes off so that you can store goodies in the top, the cupcakes can sit in the area behind the horses.  This is designed with a kids party in mind, but I think it would look just lively in a child's bedroom, they can store bits and bobs (hair bobbles and slides etc)  in the cupcake area and more in the top.  This carousel measures 11 inches wide by 12 inches tall.

Box Camera

My second project was just something I had seen online and had been thinking about since I had made the modern cameras almost a year ago.  It doesn't function as anything other than an ornament for display - no openings, no inside box, just a plain and simple ornament.  

Dress Form

Then I moved onto something even 'girlier' a dress form (been watching a lot of British Sewing Bee)!  This one does open up, so that again you can keep things inside, you could even add a piece of wire wool   covered in cloth to make it into a pin cushion.  Did you know that wire wool such as the kind you get to scrub your pots, makes a fantastic inside for a pin cushion - it keeps your pins sharp by sharpening them every time you put the pin back in!  The things you learn on the internet.....

The Seaside

My last project of the week comes in 5 parts:  A lighthouse; a lighthouse keepers cottage and three cards with envelopes.  The lighthouse is made up of three parts.  The main column  comes apart so that you can store things in it, then the red light comes off the top, so that you can put an electric tea light in it to light it up!.  The lighthouse keepers cottage is made so that the roof comes off, again in order to store things and make it useful.  The cards are three separate designs: a fish; a yaught and a compass.  As a group of designs this would make a great centerpiece for a family birthday or occasion with either a nautical theme or for someone with a passion for the seaside.   The lighthouse stands 16 inches tall and the keepers cottage is 8" tall - just to give you an idea of how sizable this is.  All three cards come with handmade envelopes.  

Anyway, that accounts for a lot of my time on my week off, so I hope you think it was time well spent!

Christmas countdown ADVENTure

Today has been all about getting ready for the countdown to Christmas starting. So, rather than buying the usual cheap and cheetful calendars I decided this year to make up some mdf ones that we can use year after year.  Each little box is aboyt 2" sq so we intend to fill with little daily gifts for each other.  I have my husbands all arranged, cant say obviously what it is but by day 24 he will have a bigger gift that will have accumulated over the advent.  He loves the nutcracker sweet, so i couldnt resist these graphic 45 papers.  

mine....hmm I wonder if a nail polish will fit? 

this is one I have from scratch on order for a work colleague. Hope she likes it.  

August Bank Holiday Traditions

That's it August bank holiday again, tradition dictates this is the start of my preparing for Christmas! Well that and writing assignments, but as I am half way through writing my very last one for my MSc maybe next year I'll just be able to craft all weekend long!

So I am happy to report that I have started making my Christmas cards.  5 down, 35 to go....Hello Santa Box Cards....

The next project is one I have been thinking about for a while.  My hubbie loves Christmas he has a little year long calander he uses, but as I am forever moving it out the way to dust and the parts fall off, I wanted to make him something more substantial.  I used an old clock and drew out a perpetual calendar.  Then sanded and decorated up the clock front.

haunted house

Its august already, where is this year going? Thinking about how behind I have been in my crafting this year, I decided last weekend to start a bigger project, in preparation of Autumn and Halloween. .  And , this afternoon,  I finished it.  My version of svgcuts.Com's  haunted house.  I've been waiting to use these graphic 45 wizard of oz papers for ages and this project seemed perfect.

Further below I've also popped in a pic of an amazing cake made by sharonsbakes , but for which I supplied the paper tennents and Guinness bottles.
